UK’s List of Highest Paid Athletes

Wayne+Rooney+Manchester+UnitedSports and wealth are two ingredients that often mix. We are no aliens to athletes with quite the interesting level of compensation that we could all drool about. The UK for example is no different. The country, being a huge sports aficionado, has a good number of well paid sportsmen and sportswomen.

Are you curious as to how much fortune we’re talking about? Take a look at this list of the United Kingdom’s highest paid and wealthiest athletes.

#1: Lewis Hamilton, F1 Racer ($280 million)

Thirty one year old, Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton tops our list with over $280 million in net worth. Lewis is a Formula One racing driver for the Mercedes AMG Petronas team. He became Formula One World Champion in 2008, 2014 and 2015, making him the first British driver in history to win consecutive F1 titles. He has had more race victories than any other British driver in the history of Formula One with 44 at present. Moreover, he is the only driver in the history of the sport to have won at least one race in each season he has competed to date.

#2: Rory McIlroy, Golf – ($200 Million)

Northern Irish professional golfer and member of both the European and PGA Tours, Rory McIlroy ranks second in our list, quite surprising too as his net worth has ballooned immensely over the span of a year. The twenty seven year old athlete is reported to have a net worth of over $200 million. Quite a huge sum for a guy his age! But if you’ve ranked as the world’s number one in the Official World Golf Ranking for 95 weeks, this shouldn’t be surprising at all.

#3: Wayne Rooney, Football ($160 million)

English professional footballer, Wayne Mark Rooney is reported to have a net worth of $160 million. He plays for and is the captain of both the Manchester United F.C., nicknamed “The Devils” and competes in the Premiere League, and the England national team. Thirty year old Rooney has played both as forward and midfielder, with the former more prominent during the duration of his career.

#4: Jenson Button, F1 Racer ($105)

Born in Frome, Somerset and brought up in nearby Vobster, Jenson Alexander Lyons Button is the second Formula One driver in this list. The athlete who currently drives for McLaren is said to have a net worth of $105. He became a 2009 Formula One World Champion, driving for Brawn GP.
